Valentine’s Day on A Budget

Published on February 8th, 2016

With Valentine’s Day coming up, you probably want to do something special for a loved one. However, when you are strapped for cash it can be difficult to come up with something that is fun, inexpensive, and romantic. Fortunately, there are a ton of creative dates you can plan and go on without breaking the bank!

Explore

This is especially great if you live in a big city like Chicago. With all of the neighborhoods, there has to be at least one you’ve wanted to explore. Plan on finding a great food truck or local eatery that isn’t too expensive for food, and then walk around to find cool places. In the winter, it will be smart to look up at least a couple places to go to, such as an indoor flea market, an inexpensive brewery tour, etc.

Have A Staycation

For many, a day without responsibilities is one of the best presents you can give someone. If you have kids, send them to a grandparent and plan out things to do at home for cheap. Cook a romantic dinner together, build a fort, watch movies that you haven’t seen together, have a game night, and more. Be creative!

Find Free Events

There are always a ton of free things going on in Chicago, from comedy shows to museums. Research different events and find one that appeals to both of you. Local concerts aren’t usually more than $20.00, and usually include more than one band. Spend the time finding the right thing, and it will be a Valentine’s Day to remember!
